Cecil Lewelling, Sr., age 72, of Taneytown, Maryland, formerly of Fayetteville, N.C., died suddenly following complications from surgery at the Johns Hopkins Bay View Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland on Sunday, January 31, 2010.
Born April 16, 1937 in Knoxville, Tennessee he was the son of the late Carl and Lettie (Lane) Lewelling. He was predeceased by his wife, Jeannette Marie (Klein) Lewelling in 1975.
Cecil was a veteran of the Tennessee National Guard and the Maryland National Guard. He was retired after 31 years as a Tool and Dye Maker with Black and Decker Corp. He co-founded the FSK Jr. Eagles football and cheerleading squad in Taneytown in 1969 and was an active supporter for many years. He was very active in community organizations such as the Jaycee’s, Westminster, MD, and Fayetteville, N.C. Moose Lodge where he served as trustee and board member; basketball, baseball, and football little league coach; committee to design and build the Taneytown community swimming pool, committee to establish rural home postal delivery in Taneytown; and while in Fayetteville he helped to start multiple Neighborhood Watch programs. He was an avid photographer.
Surviving are son, Daniel R. Lewelling, Sr. and wife Sherri of Taneytown; daughter-in-law, Danette Lewelling of California; grandchildren, Theresa “Trish” Collins and husband Eric, Robert Alan Lewelling, Heather M. Jones and husband Perry, Tabytha D. Lewelling, and Daniel R. Lewelling, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Sahvannah Collins, Isaac Jones, Alaynah Collins, and Jacob Jones. Also surviving is his companion of 23 years, Peggy Greenway of N.C., and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Cecil Lewelling, Jr. in 1982, and by several siblings.
