Cecil was born on August 11, 1935 to Cecil C. and Eliza R. (Aker) DeWees. A true family man from the beginning, Cecil, left school early to work and support his mother and siblings. On April 10, 1954 in Carthage, Indiana, he married Barbara Jean True. Together they would have four children and raise their family in Eaton, Indiana.
Cecil worked for RockTenn, later WestRock for over 33 years, retiring in 2002. He enjoyed camping, fishing, Dodge trucks, western movies and goats.
Cecil is survived by his children: Diana Stapleton, Gary DeWees (Elizabeth), Bruce DeWees (Diana), and Bobbie Goe (Kyle); two sisters: Sarah “Sue” Makela, and Linda Minzenberger; eight grandchildren: Timothy Stapleton (Sally), Kimberly Stapleton, Bruce DeWees Jr. (Bridget), Cecil DeWees (Laura), Cory DeWees, Kyle DeWees (Abby), Austin Goe (Jacy), and Brittany Goe; eleven great-grandchildren, four great-great-greadchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews and his pretty girl Tippy.
In addition to his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by his wife Barbara DeWees; three brothers: Thelin DeWees, Ronald DeWees and Mitchel DeWees; two sisters; Ruth Ann DeWees and Norma Scheibler; a son-in-law, Alan Stapleton and a daughter-in-law, Debra DeWees.
St. Jude Children’s Hospital was very important to Barbara and Cecil. For many years they supported the hospital in any way they could, including organizing the St. Jude Bike Marathon in Eaton.
