Catherine Helen Graham of Portage Kay died peacefully on December 27, 2010 at Bronson Hospital. She was born February 14, 1926 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to Irvine and Katherine Appleton.
Kay was raised in Lansing, Michigan. As a child, Kay loved to dance and read.
She learned to sew, knit and needlepoint, and enjoyed those activities for the rest
of her life. She had one brother, Col. Irvine Appleton, and one sister, Elizabeth
John Lorenz, of DeWitt, Michigan. Kay graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in 1943. At Eastern, she met
Elwood Moby Graham. She waited for him to return from service in the Pacific
in World War II and they married on April 22, 1946. They moved to Portage in
1953 and lived there for the rest of their lives. Kay was devoted to her family. She had four children: Suzanne Ron Klein, of Bangor, Scott Marcia, of Portage, Steven Karen, of Portage and James Brenda, of Portage. She had six grandchildren, Greg, Kally, Chelsea, Nicholas, Jackson and Zane Graham.
She had many nieces and nephews. Kay cherished her time with all her friends, including Tootie Lipschultz, Janet Horton and Val Abbott. Kay worked at the Upjohn Company as an Executive Secretary in the Chemical Department. She retired in 1984. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Irvine and Katherine, her husband, Moby, and her brother, Irvine. Kay’s life was always linked to sports; most notably baseball and softball. She loved to root for her husband, children and grandchildren, and spent countless hours at Ramona Park, Sutherland Field, South Portage Little League, Vanderberg Park and Hyames Field. She was a knowledgeable and vocal fan.
