Catherine C. Mocarsky, born August 1, 1917, left this earth to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, July 22, 2012, nine days before her 95th birthday. A lifelong Newington resident, she died in the comfort of her home and was surrounded by her loving family. Catherine was greeted at the gates of Heaven by her husband Theodore Thomas Mocarsky, her parents Theresa and Walter Oleski, siblings Walter Oleski, John Oleski, Helen Lucas, Mildren Crawford, Pauline Shoaf, her loving nephew Frank LaPorte, and long time friends Sophie, Clara and Alina. Also waiting are her son-in-law Bob Nicholson and long time family friend Bob Hunt. Catherine lived life to the fullest, caring for her garden, trips with seniors and most importantly, time with family and friends. Her greatest trip was her pilgrimage to Jerusalem. Catherine will be remembered most for her strong work ethic, her faith, her love of polka and her encouraging nudges to “do the right thing”. Catherine, the matriarch of the family, taught through example. She was a truly a force to be reckoned with. It is not surprising that she saw her finest achievement in her volunteer work as a nurse’s aid during World War II. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Newington and had been a member of its Charismatic Prayer Group. Catherine is survived by her devoted daughter Sharon Nicholson, her grandchildren Thomasina Nicholson, Theresa Nicholson and her wife Ann Marie Gauvin and her grandson Nicholas Nicholson. She is also survived by her great grandchildren Victoria, Olivia and Julia Maldonado, Allie, Taylor, Anthony, Andrea and Tyler Nicholson-Gauvin, and her sister Wanda Zmitruk, as well as many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Family would like to especially thank our angel in white from Hartford VNA, Wioletta Remiszewski. Without her devotion and encouraging words, our last days would not have been the meaningful and peaceful time it was meant to be.
