Mr. Henderson peacefully passed away at a care facility in El Cajon, California. He is the husband of LaManda Henderson and father of Christopher and Derrick Henderson.

CARY LEE HENDERSON, eighty-nine years of age, passed away on November 20, 2013 at Lo Har Gardens Resting Home in El Cajon, California. Cary was born on October 9, 1924 in Smithville, Texas to proud parents, Carey Lee Henderson, Sr. and Virginia Dawson-Henderson. Cary grew up in Smithville, where he received his formal education, graduating from Smithville High School in 1942.

After high school, Cary enlisted into the United States Army, where he served his country proudly for three years during World War II and rose to the rank of Private First Class.

In 1949, Cary began working at the Pickwick Hotel as a General Cook and worked his way up in the occupation ladder to becoming a Chef. After eight years with the Pickwick Hotel he was hired by Western Airlines (now known as Delta Airlines) in 1957 as a Chief Skycap. He retired from the airlines in 1986 after twenty-nine years.

Cary married the lovely LaManda Crosby in 1950 in San Diego, California. They were happily married for sixty-three years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed fishing and sports, especially football and baseball. His favorite teams were none-other-than the San Diego Padres and the San Diego Chargers which he was also a season ticket holder.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Murray Henderson and his sister, Julia Mae Henderson-Peterson.

Cary Lee Henderson is survived by his wife, LaManda Henderson; two sons, Christopher Henderson and Derrick Lynn Henderson; granddaughters, Chalise Nichole Henderson and her husband, Jerome George Vorise Jr. and Whitney Lynn Henderson; great-grandchildren, Frederick McClure, Jr., Destiny Meshawn Lewis, Sha’Maya Carlise McClendon, Myjah Rene’ Robinson and Jordan “Jordy” Robinson all of San Diego, California; his nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
