Carolyne Sue Smith, age 67 , of Fairmount, IN, went home to be with Jesus Sunday, December 19, 2010 surrounded by her loving family at her residence.

She was the daughter of the late Charles Persinger and the late Mary (Carey) Persinger. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 4, 1943. Sue attended Fairmount High School. She married the love of her life, Phillip D. Smith on July 13, 1959, he survives in Fairmount. They celebrated 51 years together and raised 6 children.

Sue and Phil were the 2009 Museum Days King and Queen. Sue enjoyed coaching her girls softball leagues. She coached the first girls softball teams of Madison Grant High School. During the late 70’s she coached the Cinderella League to the 2nd World Series in Corning, NY coming in second place. She also coached in the Fairmount Recreation League. Sue spent 26 years volunteering with Helping Hands of Fairmount. The first female to every be elected to the Fairmount Town Council were she was the first female to serve as both President and Vice-President , she served on the Council for 15 years.

Sue had worked at Foster-Forbes, AA Rentals, VA Hospital, Marion, IN General Tire, Point Pizza and Cover All Rental and Custodian at Madison-Grant High School.

She attended Grant United Methodist Church, Fairmount. Four Daughters: Sonji (Rick) Graff, North Webster, IN Sandra (Toby) Williams, Fairmount, IN Shelley (Brent) Zartman, Milford, IN Faith Smith, Alexandria, IN Two Sons: Paul Smith, Fairmount, IN Douglas (Pam) Smith, Alexandria, IN One Sister: Lavonne (Neal) Losure, Fairmount, IN 21 Grand Children 22 Great-Grand Children.

She was preceded in death by grandson, Jacob Wesley Wiggs and 2 brothers; Charles Lee and Ronald Eugene Persinger.
