HAMMOND, INDIANA – Carolyn J. Harrington, age 81, of Hammond, Indiana, entered the gates of heaven on July 31, 2017. Carolyn was born and raised in Salem, Ohio, and has been a resident of Hammond, Indiana where she attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.
Carolyn was raised in Salem, Ohio, on a farm on Depot Road, married her high school sweetheart, Paul Harrington shortly after graduating from Salem High School in 1953, was an active member of the Salem Booster Club, and worked at several businesses in the Salem area. She dearly loved her family, her grandchildren, and provided life lessons to them at every opportunity. She was a devoted wife, a loving and gracious Mom, and an encourager to everyone she ever met.
In addition to raising her four children, Carolyn was a creative entrepreneur, starting a small interior decorating design business in the 1980’s. She and Paul moved the business to St. Augustine, Florida, in 1990 and continued it for nearly 10 years, until she moved to Hammond, Indiana.
Carolyn is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Paul E. Harrington; four children: Barbara (Ken) Segel, Julie (Sam) Mathias, James Harrington and Tim (Laura) Harrington; grandchildren: Zachary, Josh and Abigail Segel, Mallory Wagner, Tyler and MacKenzie Harrington; sister, Ruth Wagmiller and a number of nieces, nephews and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Helen Hoopes; twin daughters: Catherine Anne and Patricia Anne Harrington; and a sister, Marjorie Hiscox.
