Carolyn Gabriele, 73, of Oakville CT and Orlando FL, passed away peacefully at Valerie Manor on January 18, 2010, surrounded by her loving husband, children and all of her grandchildren.
Carolyn was the loving wife of Nicholas, her true soul mate and friend of 52 years.
She was born in Waterbury on Nov. 30, 1936, daughter of Teofil and Stella Mis and sister of Nancy.
Raising their children in Oakville, they were known to all of their children’s friends as “Mom and Pops.”
Carolyn graduated from Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing, 1957 with her Registered Nursing Degree. She was a nurse at the Waterbury Hospital Nursery and then worked at a prominent pediatrician’s office for many years in Waterbury.
She opened Rainbow Daycare in her home in 1988 where she loved and nurtured many children over the years. She then went on to be the Director for the Taft Childcare Center.
Famous for her baking, she made over two hundred dozen specialty cookies at holiday time.
She also leaves a son, Nicholas Gabriele and his wife Diane Lavoie of Northfield; a daughter, Cynthia Gabriele of Torrington; and a daughter, Deborah Gabriele-Wolff and her husband Steve Wolff of Woodbury. She leaves wonderful family memories with her devoted grandchildren, Myriah, Sarah (and her husband Joshua), Kaitlin, Josh, Adam, Cassandra, Kelsey, Madison, Sophia , Benjamin and two great-grandchildren Damon and Blayze.
The family would like to thank the nurses and CNA’s on staff at Valerie Manor for their kindness and caring.
