Carolyn “Carrie” Chebro, died peacefully Sunday, April 28, 2002 after a short illness. Carolyn was born in Ashford July 21, 1912, one of eight sisters. She successfully raised four children and was a devoted mother. In 1949 Carrie created and ran the first hot lunch program and Parent Teacher Association (PTA) in Ashford. Carrie worked very hard to petition for electricity in the Ashford Schools. In 1951 she supervised the laundry at the Mansfield State Training School where she worked with the handicapped until her retirement in 1969.
