Caroline Ruth Jackson Woodson was born on July 22, 1958, in Bomi Hills, Liberia to her parents, General Superintendent Glakron B. Jackson and Sarah Booker-Jackson. She was the tenth child born in the family. She was affectionately called “Baby Ruth” by family and friends. As a child, she enjoyed dancing, singing and hanging out with her friends. She was also strong willed and not easily intimidated. She was very protective of her sister, Adrianna. Caroline came to the United States and pursued an education. In 1973, Caroline graduated from the Brearley High School located in New York. She furthered her education by attending Ellsworth College in Iowa Falls, IA the Oscar Rose College in Oklahoma City, OK, the Metro State College in Denver, CO and in 2013, she earned an Associate of Arts Degree from Community College of Denver. She was very proud of her academic achievements. Caroline met, Donald Johnson and to this union, Duwayne was born. On November 2, 1985, she united in holy matrimony to Deric Woodson. The couple first met in Los Angeles, California. The marriage was full of joy and happiness. Caroline was an inspiration to Deric. To this union, a daughter, Sarah was born. Donald and Deric, remember her as funny, witty and a mother whose pride and joy was the care and nurture of her family. She loved to cook and they shared many happy and precious moments together. She was later blessed with five grandchildren, Alaynah, Terrence, Jr., Devaughn, Justin and Justice. They affectionately called her “Nan, Nana or Grandma Kukah” and fondly remember her cooking the best food ever, letting them do what they wanted to do and telling them her childhood stories. By profession, Caroline was a Cosmetologist and Entrepreneur. She was the owner and operator of the “Kukah Touch/Affordable Braiding and Weaving.” She was a pioneer in hair braiding and weaving and one of the first to bring those talents to Colorado. She was hard-working and performed her talent with precision and elegance. She developed many friendships over the years. She was the type of person who didn’t mind sharing and teaching others the Art of Hair Braiding and Weaving. Caroline was a fun loving woman who enjoyed life and those she encircled. In her free time, she loved conversing with family and friends, listening to music, watching movies, singing and spending quality time with her grandchildren. She was an all-around beautiful person, who didn’t mind lending a helping hand to others and was a woman who never met a stranger. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful lady, who leaves a void that, can never be filled. To know Caroline was to love her. Caroline is preceded in death by her parents and four siblings. Caroline Ruth Woodson departed this life on August 16, 2014, in Aurora, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include her husband, Deric L. Woodson, Sr., LA, CA; her daughter, Sarah A. Woodson, Aurora; her son, Dandy Duwayne Glakron Johnson, OKC, OK; two brothers, Joseph (Weatie) Jackson, Minneapolis, MN and Kpateh (Michelle) Jackson, Houston, TX; four sisters, Angeline (Philip) Darwin, Aurora, Evelyn Curry, Montgomery, Alabama, Josephine (James) Roberts, Denver and Adriana (Marcus) Henderson, Aurora; five grandchildren, Alaynah Johnson, Terrence Hewing, Jr., Devaughn Johnson, Justin Hewing and Justice Hewing and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins other relatives and many friends.
