DURHAM Mrs. Caroline Ann Matthews, 92, of Durham, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2018.
Mrs. Matthews was born in Trenton, New Jersey, the daughter of the late Joseph Schmitt, Sr. and Anna Steinhauer Schmitt. She retired in 1992 from Durham County Department of Social Services. She was a member of RTP Community Church for over 20 years and a member of the LC’s At Blacknall Memorial Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Matthews had a great sense of humor and never met a stranger. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and “GG”. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, William H. Matthews; her son, William Matthews; brother, Joseph Schmitt and a twin sister, Josephine Wittmier.
She is survived by her two daughters, Carol Jenkins (Ed) and Barbara Roberson; brother-in-law, LT Hunnings; grandchildren, Carol L. Jenkins, Stefanie Pridgen and husband, Tim, Joseph Bobby Medlin III (Deanna), William David Medlin (Carla); great-grandchildren, Andrew Medlin and Matthew Pridgen and other living family members.
