Carol (Scrivner) Kern, age 79, of Nampa, Idaho passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 10, 2012.  Surrounded by grandchildren, children, brothers and sisters, Carol quietly accepted God’s promise of eternal life and went to join her husband of 57 years, Dwight.   She was born in Meridian, Idaho on November, 28, 1932, to Lloyd and Buelah Scrivner and graduated from Meridian High School in 1951.

When Carol and Dwight began their life together, little did she know the adventurous life she would live?  Dwight was a dreamer and always saw new opportunities to pursue.  These adventures included owning and operating a small restaurant together in Meridian, Idaho.

In 1997, a special event happened in Carol’s life.  Carol was suffering from kidney disease and the long-term prognosis for her was not good.  Carol was not a good candidate for going on the national kidney transplant list; so, a decision was made to test family members for a transplant match. Her younger brother Melvin was an excellent match and Melvin unselfishly decided that he wanted to donate one of his kidneys to his sister.  The transplant was performed at the University of Utah Medical Center on December 16, 1997.   Typically a kidney transplant will last eight to ten years. Carol survived for over 14 years. Words can not express our gratitude to Uncle Mel for the gift that gave us 14 memorable years with our mother.
