Carol Ann Molloy Smith, 83, of Milford, CT, died peacefully at her home, surrounded by family, on Friday, Nov. 19, 2021.  Born June 24, 1938, in Bridgeport to the late Edward Leo Molloy and Gertrude Jones Molloy, Carol attended Devon Grammar and Milford High School. She enrolled at Saint Joseph’s College from 1956 to 1957, after which she married her former husband, Winthrop Sexton Smith.

She is survived by her five children (Winthrop Sexton Smith Jr., Thaddeus Edward Leo Smith, Ellen Moulton Smith, Daniel Molloy Smith and Hannah Smith Wolfgang), her 11 grandchildren (Catharine Molloy Smith, Hannah Lee Smith, Anna Louise Schmitt, Winthrop Sexton Smith III, Joseph Taylor Schmitt, Ethan Scott Smith, Jacquelyn Carol Smith, Madison Alexis Smith, Eli Washington Smith, River Wolfgang and Harrison Wolfgang) and one great-granddaughter (Cornelia Stefania Smith).

Her career in legal administration spanned four decades at multiple law firms: Berchem and Moses, P.C., in Milford, The Law Offices of Ray Garcia in New Haven and Susman, Duffy and Segaloff, P.C., in New Haven. During her career she also obtained a bachelor of arts degree from Albertus Magnus College in New Haven in 1993.

Carol devoted much of her spare time to Milford civic life. She helped manage political campaigns for her former husband, her son and grandson. She was a leader of the Milford Jaycee Wives, a civic organization for women of local business owners. She also took great pride in the historic character of Milford’s downtown, especially the area’s Colonial and Greek Revival architecture, and in 2000 founded the Milford Historic District No. 2 South of the Green to preserve these endangered buildings. She chaired the District board until 2020.

A committed member of St.

In 2019, the Junior Women’s Club of Milford honored Carol for her devotion to her home city, presenting her with the 23rd Milford Living Treasure Award. Mayor Ben Blake marked the occasion by declaring Nov. 20 as Carol Molloy Smith Day in the City of Milford.
