Carol Johnson, 84, of Spirit Lake passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at Accura Healthcare of Spirit Lake.
Carol was born on March 9, 1934, to Clarence and Nellie (Knudson) Kranz in Rosholt, SD. She graduated from high school in Columbia Heights, MN. She was united in marriage to Marv Johnson on June 23, 1962. Carol was a devoted homemaker and mother raising her 5 children. She was a member of Good News Community Church in Okoboji. Carol enjoyed caring for children her whole life. Her big accomplishment was starting the Timeout Nursery in Spencer, IA. She was later asked by the state of Iowa to help assist in starting other daycares across the state. In her free time, Carol enjoyed painting, doing crafts, and most of all spending time with her family, friends, and grandchildren on the lake. Carol really enjoyed feeding the geese and always made sure the kids had on their life jackets. When in all reality she was the life jacket of the family. She will truly be missed.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband Marv of Spirit Lake; children Rick (Judy) Johnson of Lindstrom, MN; Greg (Shelley) Johnson of Alta Loma, CA; Randy Johnson of Windom, MN; Jodi (Jon) Miller of Spirit Lake and Kari (James) Smart of Mobile, AL; eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three on the way. Also left to cherish her memory are her nieces, Gayle Johanson-Hanson-Nelson and Susan Gray, and lifelong best friends Bev Wedan and Charlotte (Chuck) Zylka. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Patricia Johanson, Lois Baker, nieces Bonnie Swanson and Kathy Coldren.
