Carol Razewski died January 1, 2021. She was born in Schenectady, New York on February 17, 1949 to Francis J. “Frank” Razewski and Mary Cooley Razewski. She moved to Nome, Alaska in the 1970s and worked at the KNOM Radio Station. She married John Pfeifer and lived with him in McGrath and later in Kodiak, Alaska. She received her degree in Library Science from the State University of New York, Albany while working at the Kodiak Public Library.
In 1989 she moved to Anchorage and was hired as the Branch Manager at the Sampson-Dimond Branch Library of the Anchorage Public Library. In 1995 she married Ron Stillens who was introduced to her by friends. They spent five years in New Hampshire where Carol worked as head librarian in a town library. When Carol and Ron returned to Alaska they volunteered as court Observers for the Alaska Judicial Council. Carol loved to cook, entertain and visit with friends and would never pass up a good piece of pie. She was an avid reader and an excellent seamstress and knitter making her own clothes and gifts for family and friends. She often spun her own yarn on a traditional spinning wheel. She and Ron also spent time traveling in Alaska and outside on their motorcycles. She loved her furry companions: Zosia and Stella. She and Ron hosted an annual gingerbread house decorating party for friends for 10 years that was greatly enjoyed by all.
Carol was a true activist for peace, and she spent every Saturday afternoon, rain or shine, standing on the corner of the Anchorage Park Strip promoting world peace as a dedicated member of the “Women in Black” vigils. Carol is missed by her many friends in Alaska. She is survived by her husband Ron Stillens, her two younger sisters, Ellyn Marie (Richard) Vaught of Culpeper, Virginia and Mary Jean Bland of Jay, New York, nephew Matthew and her nieces: Sarah, Allie, Hannah.
