She was a 1960 Purdue University graduate with a B.S. in Education. She taught 3rd and 4th grade at Beech Grove Central Elementary School where her father-in-law was the Superintendent. Carol was a member of Delta Gamma, Tri-Kappa, PEO and Symphony South Group. She had a long tenure in the 4-H program with a wide range of involvement in addition to being a Girl Scout leader. She was a board member of the Marion County Fair prior to moving to Johnson County. Mrs. Bales enjoyed playing bridge, travel, her grandchildren and winters at Pompano Beach, FL.
Carol is survived by her husband of 52 years, Jimmie F. Bales, DDS and 3 daughters. They are Jamie S. (Don) Just of Andover, KS, Julie K. DelaCuesta of Ft. Wayne and Jodie L. (Dr. Steven) Bales of rural Bluffton. Surviving grandchildren are Amanda, Michael and Evan Just, Courtney and Drew DelaCuesa and Brent, Kristen and Lauren Bales. She is also survived by her sister Mary Ellen (David) Weber of Harrodsburg, KY.
