Carol Ann Freed, 78, of Quakertown, PA, passed peacefully Tuesday, January 31st at St. Luke’s University Hospital in Bethlehem. She was the beloved wife of the late C. William “Bill” Freed Jr. and the beloved mother of surviving son, James I. “Jamie” Rafftesaeth, Jr. Born on July 17, 1938, in Harrisburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late George Jr. “Kickey” and Catherine “Kitty” (Snyder) Kichman. She was graduated from John Harris High School, Harrisburg, 1956, and she was an active member of the First United Church of Christ in Quakertown and the Quakertown Women’s Club. Carol led an exemplary and inspirational life. From her earliest avid interest in fashion design and music at esteemed Junior Dress Shop in Harrisburg, where she designed ensembles and displays and gave piano recitals, to the original Vogue Dress Shop in Perkasie as an assistant, and through her lengthy service at Kulp Jewelers in Quakertown, she is fondly remembered for a having a keen eye, good ear, sharp design skills and lauded customer relations. A true professional. During those years, and to her last days, Carol thrived upon the gracious art of passionate entertaining, a now nearly lost art. A highly accomplished chef, an unparalleled host, an innovative decorator; she was a selfless and tireless orchestrator for us all, indeed. She was admirable throughout, exhibiting devout faith and radiating true love. With her son, she is also survived by an incomparable network of close friends whom she has influenced and been influenced by, served and been served by, helped and been helped by, loved and been loved by; a solemn and compassionate confider and confidant she was. At the end of the day, Carol is most simply a rare and unconditional friend, above all and to all, and for our Lord. Amen.
