Carmen Maria Rivera of Jackson, NJ, has recently passed away. She leaves behind her, two beautiful children. Her daughter Ashley Vega, age 22 and Kenneth Vega, age 20. Carmen also leaves behind a granddaughter, Sofia, age 2. She was a devoted grandmother. Carmen was born in Kimball Medical hospital in February 17, 1958. Carmen came from a large family. She grew up in Toms River, NJ.

Her family moved in 1973 from Toms River to Jackson NJ. She was a cheerful loving child and excelled in her school studies. She attended and graduated from Jackson Memorial High school in 1978. Her passion was to be a fashion designer and was accepted to Taylor Business Institute. She was quickly on her way to pursue her dreams in the fashion industry. She graduated proudly in the summer of 1980. Some of Carmen’s other passions consisted of sewing, cooking, knitting and dancing. She was the highlight of our lives. Her warm welcoming smile and love for others, inspired us to be better.

She was the light of our lives. At a young age she was one of 11 children. Sadly, her Father, Juan A Rivera from Camuy, Puerto Rico had passed away in 1973. Her mother, Delores Eschandia was also from Lajas, Puerto Rico. She too, had passed shortly after in 1978.

They had come to America in hopes of starting a new promising life for themselves and their children. Carmen leaves behind her beloved family. The oldest brother, Portilio Cruz Rivera. Her next brother Juan Jr. Rivera, her oldest sister Blanca Rivera. To follow is her brother Andre Rivera, sister Nancy Rivera, brother Jimmy Rivera, brother Alfredo Rivera, Mary Ann Taveras, Jorge Rivera, Rojilio Rivera and the youngest, Virginia Rivera- Derickson.

She leaves behind her many nieces and nephews, who loved her dearly. Our hearts are broken. She will be forever missed.
