Carl Johnson (Carlys H. Johnson II) passed away from a heart attack on October 5th, 2022. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on December 31st, 1942.
Carl’s life started with challenges as he was born in the 6th month of pregnancy. The doctors said he would not live but his mom said he would…and live he did! He played football in high school and was good at getting through the line. During his growing up he spent a lot of time with Mary and Kenny Gilsdorf, who treated him like he was one of their children.
Carl had an outgoing bold personality and was comfortable approaching complete strangers to ask questions or just make friends. He gave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ in 1972 and attended seminary school in Colorado for a short time. He had a ministry of handing out Bibles and loved studying the Word of God. He was a Gideon and preferred the KJV translation. He could run a chainsaw like it was an extension of his body and outworked men in their twenties when he was in his 60’s. He made friends in Alaska with Dean Thompson and went on many hunting and fishing trips with him. Carl earned the nickname “Mule Skinner” among his Alaskan friends. He and Dean would pack up their mules and go hunting in the bush. Soon after he arrived in Alaska, he bought a strawberry roan horse (Strawberry).
Carl is preceded in death by his parents Carlys H. Johnson and Rose (Rosenberg) Johnson. He is survived by his ex-wife Barb Thompson of 26 years, daughter Christi (Eric) Falen from Caldwell, ID, son Brian (Mukkove) Johnson from Palmer, AK, grandsons: Maciah Johnson, Wyatt (Mosheh) Johnson, Cole (Natalie) Falen, granddaughters: Aleita Falen, Karissa (Jonathan) Hale, Teagan Johnson, great grandson: Hunter Hale, and sister Marlene (Mike) Hales from Leawood, KS.
