Passed away Monday, November 16, 2015 at the age of 79. He was born on June 16, 1936 in Three Rivers, MI the son of the late Carl H. and Louise (Black) Awe. Carl graduated from Three Rivers High School in 1956 and graduated from Western Michigan University in 1960. On March 19, 1960 Carl married the former Sharon Ransler in Ypsilanti, MI. After college he worked at Armstrong Machine Works and UPS before purchasing Ransler Moving and Storage from his in-laws, Howard and Tek Ransler, in 1970 and served as the company’s president until retiring in 1995.

Carl also served in the US Air Force Reserves and was honorably discharged in 1966. Carl was very active in the Republican Party and served on the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners for 8 years, as chairman of the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners for 2 years and as president of both the City of Portage and the City of Kalamazoo Chambers of Commerce. He loved the WMU Broncos and was a member of the Gary Fund and President’s Club, proudly supporting all of the athletic and academic programs at his alma mater. Carl was also a longtime member of the Rotary Club of Kalamazoo and a Paul Harris Fellow.

He loved to play golf and was a member of the Kalamazoo Country Club for over 35 years. His greatest joy came from being with his family and especially spending time with his grandchildren. Carl is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sharon; two daughters and their husbands, Carla & Greg Orent of Portage and Carolyn & Steve Husky of Houston, TX; and two grandchildren, Jared and Lindsay Orent.
