Carl William Johnson, age 92, of Stromsburg, Nebraska, passed away January 27, 2023 at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.
Carl was born January 10, 1931 to Charles S.F. and Minnie Louise (Swanberg) Johnson in Stromsburg. He attended country school and graduated from Stromsburg High School. Following high school he served in the U.S. Army for two years from May 5, 1952 to March 22, 1954. During that time he was in Korea.
On December 16, 1951 he was united in marriage to Lottie Lee McLean in Benedict. To this union seven children were born. The family lived in Stromsburg where Carl was a farmer, and also owner of Johnson Propane and Fertilizer and Johnson Lawn and Garden. He then began his business of Carl’s Skráp which he owned and operated until his retirement.
He was a lifelong member of the Evangelical Free Church in Stromsburg where he enjoyed singing in the church choir and Cousin’s Quartet. He served in several capacities in the church. He was also a member of the Stromsburg American Legion.
He loved sports. He was on a bowling league, played on the church softball team and later in life took up golfing. He cheered his children and grandchildren at their sporting events. He, of course, loved watching Husker football.
Survivors include his wife Lottie of Stromsburg; children: Carla (Cregg) Wennstrom of Antioch, IL, Cathy (Ron) Carson, Cherri (Scott) Lindburg, Scott (Cathy) Johnson, all of Stromsburg, Cindy (Ron) Kutschkau of Clarks and Colleen (Charlie) Johnson of Harrisonville, MO; 18 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren; son-in-law Rick Damkroger of Firth; brother Richard Johnson of Stromsburg; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Carol Damkoger; infant brother Donald; sister and brother-in-law Dorothy (Doyle) Gustafson; half brother Roswell Johnson; and sisters-in-law Nancy Johnson and Julie Christiansen.
