Carl Otto Hayn, Sr., 87, of Middletown, husband of Mildred (Smith) Hayn for 64 years, passed away on Sunday, October 24th at Middlesex Hospital. Born in Middletown, he was the son of the late Sigismund and Wanda (Denert) Hayn. Carl has lived in Middletown all of his life and attended Woodrow Wilson High School. He served his country in the U. S. Army (296th Combat Engineers) during WWII participating in the European Theater including the Battle of the Bulge and was honorably discharged with the rank of Acting Lieutenant. Carl started his own manufacturing business around 1960 which is now a world leader in Marine and Architectural Hardware. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Janet Hayn of Middletown, Gail Hayn Pfeifle and her husband, Luke of Cape Elizabeth, ME and Caren Hayn Cowie and her husband, Bill of Reading, MA; his son, Carl O. Hayn, Jr. and his wife, Diane of Middletown; four grandchildren, Sam, Hannah, Derek, and Adam; three great grandchildren, Ruby, Gus and Huck; two sisters, Elsie Johnson and Lillian Crandall and a brother, Louis Hayn. He was also predeceased by a brother, Oscar Hayn and three sisters, Olga Champion, Helen Pollard and Dorthy Sherman.
