Carl L. Helms, 92, of Annville, and formerly of Williamsport, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, May 17, 2017.

Born June 19, 1924, in East Stroudsburg, Carl was a son of the late James L. and Margaret E. (Shafer) Helms.  On March 26, 1949, he married the former Naomi V. Smith, who preceded him in death on October 22, 2008.

Carl was a member of St. John’s–Newberry United Methodist Church for over 50 years.  He served honorably in the US Navy during WWII on the USS Wichita, attaining the rank of Seaman First Class.  He was a mechanical draftsman for E. Keeler/Tampella Co. retiring in 1988.

Carl enjoyed bowling in the church bowling league at Harvest Moon Lanes and mixed doubles league at Faxon Bowling, fishing the area streams, Penn State Football and making several trips to Colorado to visit his grandchildren.  He enjoyed square dancing and going on trips through the Top of the Hill Club with his wife.

Carl is survived by three children, Cindy (Jeffrey) Luttman, of Cleona, Lana Helms, of Palmyra and Stephen (Lori) Helms, of Topton; three grandchildren, Kyle (Katherine) Luttman, Tyler Luttman, both of Ft. Collins, CO and Leanda Helms, of Lakeville, MA; a great-grandson, Emerson Luttman and a sister, Audrey Lessig of East Stroudsburg.

In addition to his parents and wife of 59 years, Carl was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Adele Marsh and a brother, John W. Helms.
