Carl E. Altman, 93, Huntington, died at 3:17 p.m. Sunday, February 22, 2009 at the Heritage of Huntington. Mr. Altman was born on March 17, 1915 in Roanoke, Indiana to George W. and Etta Morrow Altman. He married Mary Garneta Diss in Aboite on April 12, 1936.

She preceded him in death on February 1, 1999. He was a 1933 graduate of Roanoke High School and a 1936 graduate of International Business College, Fort Wayne. Mr. Altman was the owner of Altman-Kramer Motors Chrysler – Plymouth – Dodge Dealership from 1954-1983. Prior to that he was employed by Central Soya, Poinsatte Motors and International Harvester. Mr. Altman was a 54 year member of Central Christian Church and was a founding director of the Central Christian Church Foundation. He was a member of the Huntington Rotary Club where he was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow.

He was a longtime member of the Three Rivers Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and the Mizpah Shrine. Mr. Altman was an active member of the Travelers Protective Association of America, Fort Wayne Chapter and a past state president. He submitted the winning slogan to the National Association of TPA. His entry, “Make Safety First and Make It Last” is still the official slogan used nationally today.

Survivors include three daughters: Joan (Paul) Kloer, Andrews, Nancy (Jerin) Juillerat, Huntington, and Patricia (Thomas) Potts, Fishers. One sister: Ilo Jane (William) Martin, Huntington, eight grandchildren: Michael (Lanna) Kloer, Huntington, Michelle (David) Glenn, Baltimore, Maryland, Jeffrey Kloer, Columbia City, Jennifer (Bruce) Willard, Fishers, Jane (Joel) Daas, Huntington, Christine (Ben) Lewton, Fishers, Jonathan (Tania) Juillerat, Brownsburg, Christopher Potts, Fishers, and 10 Great-Grandchildren. Mr. Altman was preceded in death by one brother: Paul C. Altman and one sister: Ruth Poinsatte, grandsons: Matthew Kloer, Steven James Juillerat, and John Andrew Juillerat, and great grandsons: Andrew and John Kloer.
