Calvin Junior Hunnicutt 1931-2014

Cal Hunnicutt, age 83, passed away peacefully in his home on October 8, 2014. Cal was a loving husband, father and friend to many. He was a funny, fun loving softy with a hard shell.

He was born on September 24, 1931, in Cushing, Oklahoma. He was the oldest of two sons born to Wanda Kelly and Calvin Hunnicutt. He was a very caring big brother and son who would do anything for his mom and little brother, Jerry.

He has been a resident of Idaho since 1939, when his family moved to Nampa. He graduated from Nampa High School in 1949. After high school he worked as a brush man for a logging company in Orofino, Idaho. In the fall of 1950, he enlisted in the US Navy.

He met his wife of 55 years in 1958 and they married in 1959. The marriage came with a package deal and he found himself with two new sons, Mark and Mike Chase. With the new family in tow, they moved to Boise in 1959.

Cal was very active through the years with baseball, softball, billiards, golf and bowling. He was an avid sports follower and constant critic of any athlete’s performance, all of which we loved and hated. Like it or hate it, it was his way to try and make you better. Often misunderstood, he had a heart of gold even if he couldn’t express it to you.

Cal is survived by his wife Margaret, sons Mark, Mike and Greg, numerous grand children,  great grand children, nieces and nephews

Dad will be missed but we truly believe that he is now playing baseball with Jesus in the Burning Bush League. J Inside joke, ask Greg about it.
