He enjoyed playing horseshoes and was a member of the Anderson Horseshoe Association and Faith Church Assembly of God.
Buford is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Norma J. Head Porter, children, Darla Joe Greiner, son, James B. Porter, 4 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and 1 great-step-grandchild, 2 sisters and one brother.
He was preceded in death by parents, Maude Watson and Oscar Porter.
