Bruce Osborne Elliott, 88, of Bristol, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday May, 3, 2008.

Mr. Elliott was born in Rochester, NH on July 20, 1919 a son of the late George and Pearl (Osborne) Elliott.

Bruce was a veteran of WWII, serving over 4 years in the US Army Air Corp as a Sergeant with the 13 Air Force 370th Bombardment Squadron in the Pacific. He was the chief flight mechanic for the B24 Liberators.

Upon his return to the states, he graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1948 with a Bachelors Degree in math. He went on to receive his Masters in physics, 2nd in his class, from Worchester Polytechnic Institute and also attended Yale, Rensselaer, Rutgers and Franklin and Marshall.

Bruce taught math and physics in both Bristol Eastern and Bristol Central High Schools.

He coached track for years and was the head of the National Honor Society at Central High.

Mr. Elliott volunteered for the Democratic Town Committee, working on numerous elections over the years, and also volunteered and worked for the IRS doing taxes for the elderly and poor all over the state.

Along with his longtime friend and fellow teacher, Ronnie Mieznikowski, he wrote a teacher retirement plan and received approval from the IRS, 430 B, it was the first in the nation. He also brought the first computers into Bristol schools after studying computer engineering at Yale and designed the science labs and helped setup the curriculum for St. Paul Catholic High School.

Mr. Elliott is survived by his wife of 58 years, Madelyn (Callaghan) Elliott; his two daughters and son-in-law, Ann Baran and Jane E. and John Anastasio all of Bristol; his son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Sheryl Elliott of Bristol; his grandchildren, Mark, Paul Johnny and Connor Anastasio, Sean, Patrick, Kaitlin and Sammy Baran and Ashley and Tyler Elliott; his great grandson, Anthony and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother Lt. Col. Robert Elliott; his sister Lt. Col. Jeanette Elliott and his grandson Daniel Baran.
