Every ship needs a captain. The crew is important, but the captain navigates all. You need to have a clear vision and a chartered course to lead. A captain must be strong-willed, noble, fearless, and prepared to weather any storm. Ship-master Bruce C. Redmer navigated through the waters of life, like a true captain, with great courage and heroism for 74 years until he passed away peacefully at home in Oaklyn on July 23, 2020. Bruce was born on July 28, 1945 in Camden, NJ to the late Albert and Loretta Redmer (nee Goldstein). As a New Jersey native, Mr. Redmer’s course had taken him to Oaklyn, Cape May, and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida for some time.
Bruce loved spending time with his grandchildren and traveling around New Jersey to different wineries. Mr. Redmer embodied what it meant to be brave and courageous. Sometimes bravery involves laying down your life for something bigger than yourself, or for someone else. Sometimes it involves giving up everything you have ever known, or everyone you have ever loved, for the sake of something greater. Bruce’s fearlessness and bravery guided him through his service in the United States Army in the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1968. He loved traveling down south, having been a police officer and lifeguard in Wildwood, NJ. He was also the head of the Cape May County Juvenile Court and more recently, was a Cruise Ship Captain for Clipper Cruise Line in St. Louis, Missouri.
Bruce is survived and will be greatly missed by his loving wife Jodiann Redmer (nee Cobb), his children; Elissa Rose Redmer and her husband Craig, Emma Redmer, Jessa Redmer (Joe). Bruce is also survived by his step-children; Timothy O’Brien, Jr. (Eric), Jesse O’Brien and his wife Dana. Mr. Redmer was predeceased by his first wife Kay (nee Kompaneck) Redmer and his brother Kenneth Redmer. He will be remembered by his grandchildren Khai & Finley Wurster as well as his dear friend Gary Welsh. Bruce will also be remembered for his love of his grand puppies Kelsey, Nala, & Midnight and his grand kittens Toothless and Lynx.
