Bruce A.

He was born July 15, 1946, in Rome a son of the late David R. and Eleanor Hoffman Townsend, and graduated from Rome Free Academy. Bruce spent his career working for the Rome CNYDSO. He was a life member of the Rome Elks, a member of the Son of the American Legion, Sylvan Beach Post #1153, and member and former Chief of the Rome Hook and ladder.

Bruce was a true sports enthusiast, playing football and ice hockey at RFA, later assistant coaching and equipment managing for the Copper City Chiefs hockey team. He also played softball in the Rome City Recreational League for many years, and coached in the Rome City Women’s Softball League and coached in girl’s youth softball. He was a lifelong avid NY Giants football fan.

Bruce is survived by his beloved partner, Maureen Campbell of Sylvan Beach; children, Bruce A. Townsend, Jr., of Charlotte, NC, Tricia Jarvis and Randy Normandin of Hudson, NH, and Tiffany Townsend and Adam Moore of Rome; his former wives, Nancy Blowers Jovanelly, and Barbara Townsend; grandchildren, Dani Jarvis of Hudson, NH, Brenna Townsend and Tim Townsend of Charlotte, NC, and Mandi Cauterucci of Rome; siblings, David R. Townsend, Jr. of Sylvan Beach, Ronald D. and Janet Townsend of Rome, James S. Townsend of Rome, Keith and Jeannie Townsend of Rome, Debra and Gene Bilodeau of Rome, Donna Townsend of Rome, Jodie M. Townsend of Rome, and Brian J. and Joanne Townsend of Rome; his canine companion, Shelby; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister in law, Jennie Townsend.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Bethany Gardens for their exemplary care, compassion and friendship extended to Bruce.
