Brother Lawrence Bruce Stewart, C.S.C., age 85, died on May 30, 2022 at the Quinn Unit of Holy Cross Village, in Notre Dame, Indiana. He was born in Norwalk, Ohio, on May 17, 1937, the son of Lynn and Agnes (Didion) Stewart. He attended St. Luke Elementary School and St. Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio, graduating in 1955. He entered the Congregation of Holy Cross as a brother in 1955, taking final vows in 1960. From 1961-1971 he taught at St. John’s School, Sekondi, Ghana. Returning to the states in 1977, he earned a doctorate in physiology from the University of Texas, Austin. From 1977-2007, he taught at several colleges and universities: Holy Cross College, Notre Dame, IN; St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame, IN; Ball State University, Muncie, IN; Our Lady of Holy Cross College, New Orleans, LO; and Tulane School of Public Health, New Orleans. In 2007, he returned to Notre Dame, IN as the archivist for the Midwest Province of Brothers. Because of failing health, he retired from the archives in 2019. As his health continued to decline he moved the Quinn Unit of Holy Cross Village, Notre Dame, IN where he died on May 30, 2022.
