Brigid Helen McIntyre (Canavan)(November 10, 1924 – May 5, 2021)Brigid Helen McIntyre (nee Canavan) was born in the small town of Ardmore on the western coast of County Galway, Ireland. Intelligent and quick-witted from a young age she excelled academically. She was talented enough that a local teacher approached her family to encourage them to send her to university. Though this unfortunately never came to pass as her family lacked the means, she maintained this this love of learning throughout the course of her life and placed a particular importance on education for all of her children. She arrived in the US in 1949 at the age of 25, living with her mother’s sister Ann and working at Horn & Hardart and then Acme Markets. She met the love of her life, Eugene, at a wedding within a year of her arrival and they would go on to share more than six decades of marriage. Together they raised a family of nine children, which grew to include twenty-one grandchildren and two great-grandchildren in her abiding joys of Brigid’s life were faith and family, and she held both close to her heart through good times and bad. Neither of these faded as her children themselves grew and started their own families, and she reveled in her role as Memom. This was never more evident than at Christmastime, her favorite time of year, when she would gather her whole family by her side to celebrate together.
