Bret Burrer, 62, of Scottsdale, AZ passed away peacefully at his home on June 3rd, 2021 after a brief battle with cancer. His wife, Gina, and daughter, Cori, were by his side.
Bret was born on September 19th, 1958 in Elyria, OH to Corwin and Kathryn Burrer. He was the fourth of five sons. Bret graduated from Oberlin High School in 1977 where he was involved in wrestling, football, and track and field. Following high school, Bret worked on the family farm, Burrer Farms. He married his high school sweetheart, Gina Presti, on June 26th, 1981. They were to celebrate 40 years of marriage this June. In January of 1988, Bret and Gina moved to Scottsdale, AZ where Bret began his 30 plus year career for Friedman Recycling. He was a loyal and dedicated employee for the Friedman Family where he continued to work as the Director of Operations until his passing. Bret enjoyed his many years working for the Friedman Family and with the employees. Bret and Gina have one daughter, Corwyn Burrer. They gained their son-in-law, Kirk Wohlman, on December 5th 2020.
Bret was a wonderful father attending all sporting and school events, teaching Cori how to drive, how to change the oil and tires, and many other life lessons. Bret’s hobbies included wood working, making ice cream, and playing pickleball. He and Gina loved traveling, bike riding, and playing cards with family and friends. Bret is survived by his wife Gina, and daughter Corwyn (Kirk) of Phoenix, AZ, brothers Thomas Burrer (Linda) and Douglas Burrer (Jeanne) both of Elyria, OH, brother Chris Burrer (Corrine) of Oberlin, OH, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Corwin in 2017, mother Kathryn (nee Banks) in 2005, brother Richard Burrer (Janice) in 2010, and niece Angie Burrer in 1998.
Bret will be remembered for his smile, laugh, kind heart, sense of humor, respect to others, dedication to hard work, and the ability to fix anything.
