On the afternoon of June 29th, 2016, Brad Treat passed away near his home outside of Glacier National Park as a result of an encounter with a bear. Brad was 38 years old.

Although his time was short, Brad will be remembered for having a perfect slice of life.  An exceptional man, his life was filled with highlights and special memories that were unique to him. His heart and his dedication will be remembered and admired by all who knew him. A selfless person, he made others around him better.

He was born in Kalispell, Montana on September 23, 1977.  He graduated from Flathead High School in 1996 where he was a standout athlete and leader. As one of Montana’s best distance runners, Brad was a member of the track and cross-country team at Washington State University where he earned his BA in Sociology.  He then attended the University of Montana, running for the Grizzlies and earning his Masters Degree in Criminology.

Brad married Somer Hileman of West Glacier in 2000.  Having a love of the outdoors, Brad and Somer returned to West Glacier and began their life together.  Brad started his career as a Federal Law Enforcement Officer and worked tirelessly on behalf of others.  Brad excelled in his position where his technical skills and capabilities were complemented by good judgment, humility, and kindness. Brad’s professionalism and demeanor established a benchmark for the profession and he was the personification of a Law Enforcement Officer.

Brad is survived by his wife, Somer, a very close and loving family, and many devoted and admiring friends.  Brad and Somer felt privileged to love many children as their own and were an exceptional “uncle and aunt” to many.
