Bonnie Skogerson

October 1932 – November 2014

Bonnie left us November 20, 2014 to dance with her beloved Gene in heaven.

Bonnie was born October 6, 1932 in Homedale Idaho to Warren and Florence Stimmel.

If you asked Bonnie who she was, her reply – “I’m an Owyhee County girl”. She loved the Owyhee Mountains, the scenery, and camping so much that she wrote poetry about it. From her Mother’s side, she was a member of a unique and well-known family the Mortenson’s who trained racehorses and her uncle was the nation’s leading jockey in 1925. She also spent many enjoyable holidays and summers with family and friends at the prominent Double Staple ranch owned by her Dad’s family in Jordan Valley Oregon.

She attended school in Homedale and was active in girls’ basketball and sports; she was a cheerleader and graduated as an International Honor Student. After graduating Homedale High School in 1950 she attended Kinsman Business University in Spokane Washington, and then moved to Boise where she met the love of her life Eugene “Gene” Skogerson and they married in 1954. Both were active in the Boise Elks Lodge # 310 and Bonnie was one of the original charter members of the Lady Elks in 1954 – they both loved to dance to 1950’s “half-century kids songs” and they continued to dance their way through life.

In 1955 Bonnie and Gene had a daughter Stephanie and in 1957 a son Steven. She made a wonderful family and created many happy memories traveling, camping, dancing and singing – it was a great life. She loved antiques, art history and was an expert on those subjects.

She is survived by her daughter Stephanie Steadman, son-in-law Glenn Steadman, grandson Evan Steadman his wife Katey and their children Kimberly, Weston and Davis, Bonnie’s great grandchildren. Sister Donna Haylett of Homedale, Brother Robert (Bob) Stimmel and wife Gwen of Olympia Washington and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Gene, son Steve and various brothers and sisters in law, nieces and nephews on both sides of her family all of whom she loved deeply.

The family wishes to thank Spring Creek Manor who loved mom so much and to the angel on her shoulder Eileen Mitchell from Stonebridge Care.
