Bonnie D. Auten, the daughter of Omar H. and Iva O. (Hipsley) Hummel, was born May 1, 1926 in Newton, Iowa. She attended Newton schools.
On August 9, 1942, Bonnie was united in marriage to Jay C. Auten in Kahoka, Missouri. She retired after twenty-five years from Winpower, where she did data entry.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jay in 1986; her son, Walter “Keith” Auten in 1997; her brother, Hugh “Buddy” Hummel in infancy; and her sister, Edythe Hale in 1999. Those left to honor her memory are her two daughters and son-in-law, Nancy and Glen Brown of Newton; and Kimberlee Swan of Newton; her nine grandchildren and their spouses, Eric and Ann Eaterla, Scott Auten, Julie and Chris Wade, Ketih and Michele Brown, Jackie and David Moles, Barbie and Mike Bradley, Jeremy, Justin and Kristin Swan; her ten great-grandchildren, this includes the two that are on the way; her brother, Omar “LeRoy” Hummel of Newton; her four sisters and brothers-in-law, Ida and Ed Rentsch of Las Vegas, Nevada; Betty and George Sickle of Newton; Peggy Pender of Newton and Patty Weithers of Colfax, Iowa; her daughter-in-law, Lynn Auten of Newton; her sister-in-law, Jeanne Hinshaw of Kellogg, Iowa; her brother-in-law, L.E. “Bill” Auten of Newton and her many nieces and nephews.
