Bonita P. “Granny” Kliss of Three Oaks died unexpectedly Friday morning, December 21, 2012, at the wonderful age of 93. Granny was born June 2, 1919, in New Buffalo to Eber and Anna Hacker. On March 29, 1938, in LaPorte, she married John H. Kliss and spent her early married years in Flint before moving back home to New Buffalo in 1952.

Surviving are daughters Bonnie Jean Parker of Three Oaks, Ruth Ann (Eddie) Eggert of Union Pier, and a son Robert (Bonnie) Kliss of New Buffalo; grandchildren Anne (Jerry) Koebel, Kirk (Barb) Parker, Theresa (Brian) Sokolowski all of Three Oaks, John (Tiger) Eggert of New Buffalo, Becky Kliss of St. Joe, and Jeff Kliss of New Buffalo; great grandchildren Melissa (Josh) Humphrey, Megan (Clay) Papoi, Victor Sokolowski and David Sokolowski; great, great grandchildren Ethan and Drew Humphrey. Her husband John Kliss and son-in-law Boyd Parker preceded her in death.

Granny was one of ten children and is survived by sisters Lois Shultz, Mary Lou Philson and Pauline Gamby of Coldwater, Lucille Cummings of Greenville, S.C., and Gertrude Gochanour of Marquette. She was preceded in death by brothers Ralph and Ray Hacker and sisters Ruth Hartley and Marge Bonham.Granny was a homemaker dedicated to helping her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her most prized possessions. She would spend her days gabbing to those that she knew about the accomplishments of her family. She took great pride in her “kids”, whether their successes were large or small they all mattered to her. She readily lent a hand to all when needed and never missed a chance to spend her days with those close to her. Her two great, great grandchildren were her latest treasures. Those boys could never do wrong when “Granny” was present. She quickly discovered that fruit snacks were the way to their heart and they’ve been best buds ever since. She was an avid league bowler and had many strikes during her fifty years of action.

She was a prior member of the Eastern Star and the Home Extension Club and in later years spent many hours crocheting beautiful afghans and many hot pads for friends and family.
