Bobby O. “Bob” Hathcoat, 85, Anderson, left this earth to be with the Father on Saturday, March 12, 2011 after an extended illness.

He is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Betty Hathcoat, who resides in the Millers Merry Manor nursing facility in Middletown. Also surviving are two daughters, Sandra Lynn Hathcoat Malsom of Markleville and Lisa L. Hathcoat of Anderson.

He was preceded in death by one son, Marcus “Mark” Hathcoat in 1996. He leaves one sister, Margaret Hathcoat Grile, of Anderson and was preceded in death by other siblings; Shirley Ray Hathcoat, Kenneth Neal Hathcoat, Anna Lois Hathcoat and Glenna Hathcoat Gaylor. In addition, he is survived by one granddaughter, Brittany Hathcoat Garrett of Pendleton and her mother, Virginia Rye Johnson of Alexandria and was preceded in death by a grandson, James Robert “Jimmy” Malsom in 2006. He also leaves two great grandchildren, Destiny Garrett and Justis Garrett.

Born August 23, 1925 in Black Oak, Arkansas to J.B. and Ola Hathcoat, the family moved to Anderson in 1941. Bob graduated from Anderson High School in 1942. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1943 where he served with honor in the Submarine Corps until the end of WWII.

He was employed by Delco Remy Division of General Motors for 46 years ending his career as a mold maker, having received multiple awards in the Employee Incentive Program. Bob was a life-long member of the Columbus Avenue Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon and Elder at various times in its history, including serving as a leader on the building program at its current location.
