Bobby Louis Adkins, 74, of 321 Whippoorwill Rd., Pelham, NC died at the residence of his sister, Linda Thomas in Gretna, VA on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 after a brief battle with cancer. He was born August 30, 1936 in Pittsylvania County in the Climax community. He was the oldest son of Earl Clayton Adkins, Jr. and Ruby Dalton Adkins. He was predeceased by his father and one younger brother, Donald Adkins. He is survived by his mother, Ruby Adkins; three brothers, Charles Adkins and wife, Virginia of Keeling, Danny Adkins and wife, Linda of Sutherlin, and Earl Adkins, Jr. and wife, Mary of Chatham; also by three sisters, Linda Thomas of Gretna, Dianne Rutledge and husband, Wayne of Timberlake, NC and Susan Conner and husband, Jeff of Chatham. He is also survived by a special friend, J’nell Carr. He was a well known musician and entertainer. He began his love for music at an early age in the rolling hills of the Climax community along with his younger brother, Charles. He later formed his first band and from there began his life of entertaining at various dances in Southern VA and Northern NC. He performed on the old VA Barn Dance and after its closing moved on to the T-Bird Club East of Danville. He later moved to Ruffin, NC and worked at Stadler Music in Reidsville where he built Marlen steel guitars. He later established the Carolina Country Club in Ruffin where he operated and performed until his recent illness. During his musical career he was surrounded by many talented musicians and singers whom he loved and admired.
