Blaine Clair Slater
December 26, 1943 – March 7, 2016

Blaine Clair Slater died peacefully in his home in Roy, Utah, on Monday, March 7, 2016, after a valiant 2 year battle with stage IV liver melanoma. Blaine was born in Ogden, Utah, on December 26, 1943, to Thomas Henry Slater and Nettie Marie Neilsen. He enjoyed growing up and going to school in the Clearfield, Utah, area, where he made many lifelong friends. He married Cathy Eileen O’Malley in Clearfield on July 31, 1964. They were later divorced.

Blaine served honorably in the Army during the Vietnam War. He loved watching football, especially his Dallas Cowboys and Denver Broncos. He was also an avid movie fan, but his greatest love of all was cars – especially Corvettes. Blaine’s quick wit, charm, and dry sense of humor served him well during his career in the car business. As they say, “he could sell ice to an Eskimo!” He spent the majority of his life in auto sales and management in Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, and California, retiring in 2003 as the General Manager of McCurtain Motors in Rock Springs, WY.

After retirement, he still dabbled in cars, buying them at auction, fixing them up and reselling. He had a real “eye” for seeing potential in the “diamonds in the rough”-clunkers that he turned into gems.

Blaine was very proud of his kids and grandkids and felt lucky to have his family in his life. His daughters Shaunna (John) Reed and Joleigh (Ken) McCoy, his son Chris (Brenda) Slater and his stepsons Cayne Comstock and Cole Comstock brought him a lot of happiness, as did his five grandchildren-Hunter Reed, Dillon Reed, Kendall Reed, Riley McCoy and Colt McCoy.

He is survived by his children and grandchildren as well as his two beloved sisters Eleanor (Mel) Green and Joyce (Jay) Donaldson, along with his many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Jay Donaldson.
