Billy Gordon Tolbert, age 82, of Langdale, Alabama passed away on July 22nd, 2022 at his home. A lifelong resident of Valley, Alabama, he was born at home in Fairfax on September 27th, 1939. He was preceded in death by his parents, A.C. Tolbert and Opal Bass Tolbert; and sister, Betty Sue Hoppe.
Billy presently was serving as a Deacon of the First Baptist Church of Shawmut in Valley, Alabama. He was greatly loved and appreciated by his neighbors, friends, and family. He was happiest when working in his garden. He loved growing vegetables and giving them away. He referred to his garden as God’s garden. He served in the Army National Guard for twenty-three years. He was very patriotic, and loved his country and the American flag. Prior to his retirement he worked in the Fairfax and Riverview mills.
Billy is survived by his brother, Bobby Tolbert (Linda); nieces, Beth Cork (Nathan) and Julianne Pigg (Kevin); nephews, Matt Tolbert (Lisa), Eddie Hoppe, and Robert Hoppe; great nieces, Racheal Morse, Samantha Pigg, Sidney Hoppe, Tiffany Tolbert, Tinsley Tolbert, and Sarah Cork; great nephews, Brenden Hoppe, Christopher Hoppe, and Alex Cork.
