Bevin Millington Parkins, 76, of Orlando, FL, passed away on April 2, 2022. He was born in Kingston, Jamaica on March 20, 1946. Bevin was the first born to his late parents Noel Edgar Parkins and Cora Mae Evans Parkins. The family moved from Kingston to Manchester, Jamaica during Bevin’s youth. As a child, Bevin took an interest in learning. He enjoyed literature and reading the most. Bevin loved geography, but he found math to be his biggest challenge!
As the oldest, Bevin was given more responsibility around the house. Whether that meant going to buy groceries, cooking, watching and caring for the younger kids, or helping his dad paint the house—Bevin gave it his all and learned the value of hard work. He also found some time to play and loved the game of cricket. He adored his beautiful mom, who was an intelligent woman who taught him important lessons about family and life.
Bevin admired his father. He was his hero. His father was a British Caribbean Army member who served during World War II. Bevin looked up to his dad and wanted to follow in his footsteps. So, he joined the Jamaican Defense Force in 1964. Bevin was proud to serve his country. This gave him an opportunity to explore more of Jamaica. One of Bevin’s best memories serving was training in the beautiful mountains, but he had a big scare when he almost fell off the mountain. That’s when a fellow soldier, Vivian Martin, saved him from falling off the cliff.
The biggest anchor in Bevin’s life was his strong Catholic faith.
To those who knew him best, Bevin was the type of person you’d find easily striking up a conversation with a stranger, helping someone in need, or sharing knowledge with a friend trying to solve a problem. To his sisters and brothers at home, he was a caring big brother who knew the rules and made sure everyone listened.
Bevin was most proud of his family and cared about them deeply. He was thankful for the parents he was given. And the family he created, including all of his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his children; Keino Parkins, Kembala Evans (Samuel Evans, III), Anika Parkins, three children whom he shared with former spouse, Susan Lee Parkins and Bevin Parkins, II, whom he shared with former spouse, Brenda Fisher. His grandchildren; Yasmine Turner, Tiara Parkins, Aaliyah Evans, Nguame Malyo, Nkosi Malyo, Mario Malyo, Kiara Evans, Mariah Parkins, Maura Parkins, McKenzie Parkins, and Manuel Malyo. And his only great-grandchild, Jaydian Jackson.
He is also survived by his brothers and sisters; Sheila Parkins Smith, Headley Parkins, Lincoln Parkins, Gresford Parkins, Patricia Parkins, Courtney Parkins, Rosie James, Lennox Parkins, Peter Parkin, and Steve Parkin. And his former spouses; Susan Parkins and Brenda Fisher.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Noel Parkins and Cora Mae Evans Parkins and his siblings; Franklin Parkins, Vindeck Parkins, Rudolph Parkins, Roy Parkins, and Monica Parkins.
