North Ogden’s very own National Cherry Pie Baking Champion, Beverly Jones Erickson passed away Thursday morning April 14th, 2016.
Beverly’s cherry pie recipe won her the National Cherry Pie Baking Championship back in 1954 where she toured the nation serving up her famous cherry pies to the likes of Mrs. Richard Nixon along one of her championship stops in Washington D.C. As she circled back to Utah, the city of Ogden received their local champion with her own parade down Washington Blvd to congratulate and welcome her back home.
Beverly was one of four children, born and raised in North Ogden to a fruit farming couple, Joseph and Violet Jones. Beverly grew up working in the family orchards where she had ample access to all varieties of fruit and an unlimited supply of those famous pie cherries which she picked and baked into pies. She practiced making 4-5 pies each day before and after school and take her pies with her on the school bus to give away to her school teachers.
Beverly married Bruce Erickson in 1956 and raised four children, Brent, Wendy, Robyn and Quinn. She is a Grandmother to 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She is survived by her children and older brother Keith.
