Beulah E. G. Rambo, 99, of North East, MD, died Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at Union Hospital of Cecil County, Elkton, MD.

Born in Independence, VA, Grayson County, on November 2, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Glenn G. and the late Melissa Poe Edwards. She lived in Cecil County most of her life.

Mrs. Rambo attended and graduated from the North East Public School system, North East, MD and Beacom Business College in Wilmington, DE. She worked at Triumph Explosives, Civil Service, Geigy Chemical, and Thiokol Chemical, from which she retired.

On April 28, 2005, she received the Governor’s Citation; an award from the Governor of the State of Maryland for Recognition and Tribute for Lifetime Achievements in Cecil County and the state of Maryland. She was a member of the North East United Methodist Church. She was also a member of Past Matrons and Patrons of Northern Maryland Order of Eastern Star, Upper North East Lions Club, Women’s Club of Cecil County, Elkton, MD, past Matron of the Elkton Chapter #84 Eastern Star, Elkton, MD, past President of the North East Lioness Club, and past District Deputy President and still a member of Cecil Rebekah Lodge #92, Elkton, MD. She and Mrs. Fletcher Williams formed the first Women’s Republican Club of Cecil County where Mrs. Rambo was elected the first President of the Club. She was the first woman to be selected for jury duty when Cecil County changed from an all male jury. She enjoyed bowling, writing and traveling to Hawaii, South America, Canada, Africa, the Islands off the Spanish mainland, and through 14 European countries. She traveled back several times to her favorite places which were Spain and Hawaii.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rambo was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Harry F. Gorrell, who died in 1969; her 2nd husband, Arthur E. Rambo, Jr., who died in 1990; her son, Edward W. Gorrell, who died in 2001; and brothers, Clifton E. Edwards, Bayne C. Edwards, and Glenn G. Edwards, Jr.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary E. Moyer of North East, MD; grandchildren, Susan Tanner of North East, MD, Jeffrey Moyer of Frederick, MD, Gregory Gorrell of Kennett Square, PA, and Jane Gorrell Lansill of New York City, NY; great-grandchildren, Jason Tanner of Aberdeen, MD, Quinn and Lucinda Lansill, both of New York City, NY; 1 great-great grandson, Kieran Tanner of Aberdeen, MD and several nieces and nephews.
