Bettye Medicus Lambert succumbed to a decade battle with Alzheimer’s disease January 8, 2013. May she rest in peace. She was born in Mobile, Alabama on August 18, 1928 to Sledge and Esther Medicus. She was the oldest of four daughters, and she grew up in their family home in Mobile on Texas Street. Her father was a Mobile City police officer, and her grandfather had been a city fireman.
Her favorite memories of Mobile were the beautiful shaded streets lined with majestic oaks, azaleas and beautiful flowers. She was a graduate of Bishop Toolen High School of Mobile, Alabama. She was baptized Roman Catholic as an infant. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Blakely Lambert, Sr. in 1988. They had three children, Gail, Donna and John Blakely Lambert, Jr. The family moved to Newnan, Georgia in 1958. During her years as a wife and mother, she was involved in everything with her family. She was active in PTA, church, Girl Scouts and as a Cub Scout leader.
She was present at all dance recitals and never missed a ball game. St. George Catholic Church became a very important part of her life. She was active in the altar society and became a Eucharistic Minister. She served on numerous committees at her church. Later, she volunteered with the local hospital auxiliary and Legion of Mary visiting nursing homes. Bettye took care of her family in every way until it became time for her family to take care of her.
She is survived by her children; Gail Cadenhead (husband Doug) of Greenville, SC, Donna Dixon (husband Tom) of Cumming, GA, and John Blakely Lambert (wife Kitty) of Newnan GA. Her grandchildren are Brad and Jennifer Day, Meridith and Andrew Wright, Dan Robertson, Jay Lambert, Scott and Louise Lambert, Andrew Lambert and April Diley. Her great grandchildren are Caleb Day, Ava Day, Kailyn Wright, Luke Diley and Peyton Diley. Also surviving are her sisters, Alice Sterling and Thomasine Cholar of Mobile AL and many loving nieces, nephews on the Medicus side, as well as the Lambert side.
