Mrs. Betty Mae Ervin, 93, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully of natural causes at Elkhart General Hospital on Sunday, March 22, 2020 at 11:45 am. She was born August 8, 1926 in Rushville to the late Earl and Nellie (McGee) Andis. She later Married Harry F. Ervin, Sr. on Feb. 12, 1950 in Kentucky. He passed away in Elkhart in 1993.
Surviving are her children, Tammy (Don) Adams of Goshen and Debbie (Jeff) McQueen and Rita (Rick) Vorm, both of Elkhart; her brother James “Sonny” (Rita) Andis; sister Jean Tillison; grandchildren Neil (Shannon) Johnson, Angie Johnson, Dawn Albright, Wendy McQueen, Jeremy Ervin, Harry Ervin, III, Ryan Bushnell, Joshua and Amber Craigo, Josh Cabanaw, Jacob McQueen, and Jordan, Collin and Brendan Adams and beloved son-in-law Danny Albright. Also surviving are a large number of great and great-great grandchildren (with one great grandchild currently on the way) as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and good friends. Betty is preceded in death by her son, Harry “Bud” Ervin, Jr; her long time companion and significant other Thomas England, and siblings George and Joyce Andis, Louise Davidson, Trudy Collins and Helen McMillen.
As much as the family would like to have an open public celebration for Betty, services will be private and limited to her immediate family due to the current public health situation. Kindly keep the family in your prayers. Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart are assisting the family and burial will follow services at Prairie Street Cemetery.
Betty worked at Steven’s (Mattress) Springs in Elkhart for 20 years, but she will be best remembered as that smiling face behind the counter at Linda’s Hideaway, where she worked for another 20 years. She enjoyed bowling, dancing, singing karaoke and getting together with her family whenever she could. She also loved professional wrestling (Dick the Bruiser was always her favorite), QVC shopping, watching the birds and spending time with her late Shih Tzu Sandy.
