Betty Louise Friend, 96, of Grafton, passed away Monday, March 15, 2021 at J W Ruby Memorial Hospital, in Morgantown. She was born August 27, 1924, in Harding (Elkins), WV, daughter of the late Howard and Katherine Shreve. On June 30, 1945, Betty married Robert Joseph Friend, who preceded her in death on September 15, 2015.
Betty graduated high school and became a Registered Nurse, including training in obstetric nursing at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. She retired at age 80, having worked for over sixty years as a nurse in Taylor County and beyond. She served as an RN for the Taylor County Senior Center (Taylor County Senior Citizens, Inc.
Betty is survived by one granddaughter, Amanda Friend Shaw, Ph.D., one son-in-law, Don Shaw, both of Waimanalo, Hawai’i and by one sister, Margie Sutton, of Elkins. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by one daughter, Janice Katherine Friend, M.D. and by one sister, Edna Slayton.
