Betty Lou Nelson Carpenter, 87, passed away October 25, 2009 at Millers Merry Manor-Chesterfield after an extended illness. She was born March 16, 1922 near Greenfield, Indiana, and resided most of her life in Anderson, Indiana. Betty retired from Delco Remy Division of General Motors after 32 years of service.

She lived much of her retirement years in North Fort Myers, Florida, where she worked as an American Greetings card distributor. She loved to camp and square dance. She is survived by her grandchildren, Shelly & husband Jeff McPhearson of Ossian and Gregory & wife Celeste Delaplane of Bluffton, South Carolina; two great grandchildren, Morgan & Colton Delaplane; brother, John & wife Alberta Nelson of Knightstown; sisters, Florence & husband, Roy Poer of Greenwood and Kathleen “Billie” Luther Williams of Anderson.

Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herschel �Skip� Carpenter; daughter, Linda Clendenen Delaplane; her parents, Charles and Cora Gardner Nelson and a brother, Charles  Nelson II.
