Betty Lou Agee of Pottstown, Pennsylvania

July 16, 1927 – October 12, 2017

Betty Lou Agee, 90 passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at ManorCare Health Services in Pottstown, PA.  Born on July 16, 1927 in Lima, OH, she was the fifth of six children to the late John Francis Agee and Gertrude Ethel Agee (nee Franks).  After spending time in Dedham, MA, Collingswood, NJ and Schenectady, NY her family settled at 3122 East Ironsides Road in the Fairview neighborhood of Camden, NJ.  There Betty remained for over 65 years.Betty attended the New Jersey College for Women in New Brunswick, NJ and was employed as the general manager of the Callahan Chemical Company for many years.  She worked in accounting positions for Del Monte Foods and other companies before retiring in 1991.Betty was an active member of the West Collingswood Presbyterian Church.  She sang in the choir and faithfully served as the finance chair and as Clerk of Session for 50 years until the church closed in 2006.  She was also honored to serve as the Stated Clerk for the West Jersey Presbytery for 5 years.  The West Collingswood Presbyterian Church, and afterward Logan Memorial Presbyterian Church were enormous parts of Betty’s life.  She greatly appreciated her time in worship and service and the many people she met over the years. The rest of Betty’s life was filled with her love for her family.  She was everyone’s favorite aunt, and though her list of nieces and nephews grew quite long, she never forgot a birthday or baptism or anything else.  She was often confided in and was all too happy to provide encouragement and instruction as the situation required.  Her opinion was sought because no matter the topic, it was always worth listening to.  She was the driving force behind the almost 30 year annual Brown Family Reunion and would do absolutely anything for her family.Betty kept herself strong and sharp for 90 years by staying active and never wavering in her faith.  She was a meticulous note-taker and an avid reader of Sue Grafton and Reader’s Digest and whatever else she could get her hands on.  She was a whiz at crossword puzzles and watched every Phillies game she could.  She also loved visiting new places and especially enjoyed traveling to Bermuda aboard the Queen Elizabeth II with her dear friend Dianne Weeks.Betty was predeceased by her parents, brother John James “Jack” Agee, sisters: Ellen Marie Agee, Mary Jane “Jayne” Shreve Brown, Dorothy Rose “Dode” Brown and Margaret Ruth “Peggy” Barker; nephews, William Frederick “Fred Agee and John Charles Agee and a niece, Judith Stevens (nee Shreve).  She is survived by nieces: Barbara Smith (nee Agee), Mary Ellen Shannon (nee Agee), Betty Jane Shreve, Patricia Bender (nee Brown) and Deborah Rohrer (nee Brown); nephews, Robert Agee and Thomas Brown and numerous great nephews, great nieces, great-great nephews and great-great nieces.  Also left to cherish her memory are many friends, neighbors and the congregation of Logan Memorial Presbyterian Church.Betty Lou was a soul both stalwart and gracious.  With her leaves a wisdom not easily replaced.Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing Thursday 10 to 11 AM at Logan Memorial Presbyterian Church, 18 W. Merchant St., Audubon, NJ 08106.
