Betty Jean Childers, 68, of Salem passed away April 4, 2011 at United Hospital Center. She was the daughter of the late William and Lauda (Harris) Minnear. In 1982, Betty Childers (formerly Betty Snyder) converted two rental properties in Enterprise, WV into a food and clothing pantry for the needy. She named the homes “The Samaritan House”. Along with Clarksburg Christian TV station, WLYJ Ch. 46, she developed at least five additional Samaritan Houses across North Central WV. In addition to meeting physical needs she offered prayer to everyone who came to the ministry. Her faith was outspoken and unrestrained and she maintained a vibrant prayer ministry throughout her life, touching thousands of lives. Betty Childers is a member of Word of Life Assembly of God in Sun Valley where she also established a large food and clothing pantry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two infant children, Bruce and Joyce and a sister, Barbara Dumire. She is survived by her husband, Arthur “Art” Childers of Salem; son, Eric and Roxanne Snyder of Knoxville, TN; daughter, Lora and Larry Reynolds of Spokane, WA; stepson, Jonathan and Renee Childers of Salem; stepdaughter, Amanda and Terry Mathews of Clarksburg; stepson, Joshua Childers and finance Ashley Mills of Clarksburg; stepdaughter, Elizabeth and Greg Cottrill of Clarksburg; grandchildren, Andraea, Derick, Ryan, Joshua, Eliot; stepgrandchildren, Jacob, Loren, Aubrey, Hannae; and brother, Rex and Sally Minnear of Worthington.
