Betty J. Groton, 86 of Stonington died peacefully on February 14, 2007 at Academy Point, Mystic, CT.
She was born Betty Jean Henman in London, England on November 16, 1920, the daughter of Edward and Clara Henman. After WW II, Betty immigrated to the United States and met her future husband, John M. Groton, Jr. within the first year of her arrival. They eventually purchase the Rock & Rills Farm in Stonington in 1955 and happily worked and nurtured it for nearly 50 years
In addition to managing the finances of the farm, Betty was an active volunteer in the greater Stonington community, most notably her many years of work for the Westerly Hospital Auxiliary.
Betty is survived by her son John M. Groton III, his wife Alice Lee Groton of Stonington; two granddaughters, Sara and Sophie Groton; two grandsons, Chas Fairbrother of Canterbury, CT, and John Fairbrother of Columbia, MD; one great-granddaughter Makenna Fairbrother and a sister Ruth DeSalvo of Glendale, RI in addition to her husband, she was preceded by her daughter, Elizabeth Groton-Fairbrother, and her four brothers-Ted, Bert, Claude and Jack.
